Meet the Shred Station Team

The Shred Station family has grown massively since opening our doors in 2008, and we now have staff members across the entire United Kingdom in various offices and depots. For most of our customers, you may only ever meet our shredding operatives face-to-face. But there is a lot of work behind the scenes that has made our operations possible, and our office and field-based staff are always happy to help.

What does your average day at work look like? I’m now into my fourth month here and it’s already been quite a journey.  I don’t really have an average day – I could be out on the road meeting customers, suppliers and colleagues or in any of our offices working with the team on marketing, processes, bids and sales, to wandering around the warehouses catching up with the team.  I’ll be getting involved with anything and everything while also looking at strategy alongside Simon and delivering improvements and innovations to the business so we’re always one step ahead

What do you enjoy most about your job? Winding up Oli. But also I like the variation and scope, it’s nice to be involved in all aspects of the business and be able to make positive changes that hopefully benefit our staff and our customers

I think this is easy – we’re unique because we truly do put the customer at the middle of our offering.  We have the infrastructure to provide whatever a customer requires while being agile enough and with a fast decision-making structure to turn anything around without delay

Name something your colleagues do not know about you: I once had an audition for an ITV drama.  I didn’t get it.  Probably why I’m here writing this & not signing autographs in Hollywood

Which three items would you take with you if you were to be trapped on a desert island? Is it too cheesy to say my wife and boys?  Outside of that a football, sun cream and plenty of beers.

What does your average day at work look like? My job role mainly focuses on identifying ideal Shred Station customers. I research and engage in conversations with said prospects to identify their importance of safeguarding information in accordance with Data Protection Legislations (GDPR). How long have you been at Shred Station? I joined forces with Shred Station in December 2020.

What does your average day at work look like? After enjoying an early hour-long walk along Whitstable beach each morning, the day ahead in my home-office never looks too shabby. I’m very lucky. Every day thereafter is full-on and varied, never average, as I work business opportunities with RM / TFM / TWM partners plus multiple customer facilities and procurement contacts.

What do you enjoy most about your job? I’ve always loved sales and business development work – ought to, with some 35 years of experience behind me. There is, without a doubt, a unique buzz to it, and as I settle in with Shred Station it comes as an enormous relief to be part of an operation that knows where it wants to be and takes genuine pride in doing things the right way.

If our shredding machines worked like Room 101, what would you put in the shredder and why? Non-recyclable food packaging. There really is no excuse for it in this day and age. Mrs M and I won’t buy it any longer; it’s either loose fruit and veg or nothing for us. Donald J Trump. He’s doing a good enough job ensuring his own way into Room 101, but we can’t have him back on the TV spouting his nonsense, not that I’d ever watch it. Alcohol-free Guinness. Ludicrous.

What are three things on your bucket list? 1. Paris, 2023, Rugby World Cup Final, England vs Ireland playing out a thrilling 30-all draw. No sudden-death winner, with each country sharing the trophy for four years. 2. A week in Cornwall on the lash with Rick Stein and not leaving his kitchen. 3. Sir David Attenborough, United Nations Secretary-General.

In one word, how do you think your colleagues would describe you? January 2021: ‘who?!’. Hopefully, come January 2022, a likeable and proven ‘team-player’.

What is it that you think makes Shred Station unique in this industry? Oh, believe me, there are a number of unique differentials. Having previously represented a competitor, I would always be anxious when coming up against Shred Station in an open Tender situation. Pricing is typically much keener than that represented by other large names in the industry. Shred Station leads the industry in regards to innovative products and services. I am excited about the development pipeline for 2021: ‘next-stop’ notifications; online portal; customer’s own logo-wrapped consoles; electronic fleet vehicles. Our ‘green’ credentials are second-to-none. We are the only major provider that can boast carbon-neutral certification, following major investment in solar panel installations plus carbon offsetting projects managed both locally in the UK and globally.

Name something your colleagues do not know about you: They know nothing about me, as yet! I doubt though I’ll ever tell them, my favourite football team is Gillingham FC 🙁

Which three items would you take with you if you were to be trapped on a desert island? Mrs M (no kids, we have five between us so would be terribly unfair to take just two of them along). Rick Stein cookbook (fish). The complete works of Claude Debussy.
