Shred Station adds second fully electric HGV to fleet
In the race to achieve true net zero, Shred Station has added a second fully electric HGV to its fleet.
Following on from our purchase of a Volvo FM Electric in September 2024, we have furthered our commitment to reduce our fuel emissions by adding another fully electric HGV to our fleet. This time, we’ve purchased a Volvo FMX Electric with a hooklift, which will be used to transport locked skips full of material ready for shredding, recycling, and secure disposal.
Our first electric HGV is an articulated truck, capable of carrying up to 50 pallets of materials at a time. It has proven to be ideal for larger-scale shredding, recycling, and waste management work. We knew, when investigating models for our second purchase, that this approach of finding a truck suitable for larger collections would be our best option.
After some exploration, we chose the Volvo FMX Electric.
About the Volvo FMX Electric
According to Volvo, the FMX electric is a “tough construction truck”, fully equipped with technology that “makes the most demanding assignments easier”. It’s ideal for heavy loads, and, mirroring the FM, has a gross combination weight of 44 tonnes. Also mirroring the FM, it has a range of 300km – around 185 miles. This makes the truck ideal for our skip collections.

Oliver Grice, Operations Director at Shred Station, said:
“The electric HGVs we are adding to the fleet must be carefully selected. Most of the electric HGVs we have trialled haven’t quite been capable of the range we need to maintain or improve our current operational efficiency. With the two we’ve added so far, though, they are perfect for bulk shredding, recycling, and waste management jobs. We can use them for the larger jobs in the day, where total route miles are typically shorter, and charge them at our depots overnight.”
This is another positive step for Shred Station in reducing our emissions.

With zero tailpipe emissions, the Volvo FMX is another step closer to true net-zero, where we aim to be by 2030. Already a lifetime CarbonNeutral® certified company, we are on track to achieve this goal.
