Shred Station takes home the decanter at the 2024 Waste World Cup

Each year, Shred Station participates in the waste industry’s most anticipated sporting event – the Waste World Cup.

Jul 02, 2024

Shred Station's 2024 Waste World Cup team.

The Waste World Cup, held annually in support of Waste Aid, this year took place on 28th June. Channelling our inner Jude Bellinghams, a Shred Station team of ten battled to bring home another trophy.

On the pitch this year, we had (from left to right):

  • Luke (Engineer Assistant)

  • Richard (Norwich Operations Coordinator)

  • Tom (Internal Sales Executive)

  • Oliver (Operations Director)

  • Aurora (Business Support Administrator)

  • Martin - the team Captain (Norwich Operations Manager)

  • Izzy (Internal Account Manager)

  • Josh (Norwich Warehouse Supervisor)

  • Aston (Norwich Warehouse Operative)

  • Lloyd (Norwich Warehouse Manager).

While most of the team had taken part in the Waste World Cup previously, for three members of the team, it was their first time. Izzy, Aston, and Aurora did amazingly well and helped to secure the third-place trophy – a glass decanter. We asked the team what their most enjoyable parts of the day were, and they said:

  • Spending the day with the team and having a good time

  • Playing the semi-final which ended in a penalty shootout

  • Luke and Tom getting sin-binned in the first game

  • Winning the decanter

  • The bus journey back – involving karaoke!

After bringing the 1st place trophy back a few times now, we saw this year as more of a chance to have a good time and a nice day out. We helped the other who hadn’t played a Waste World Cup before to feel welcome and involved, and once we ended up in the 3rd place knockout tournament, we really put our focus into winning it and taking home the decanter. I fully recommend the Waste World Cup to other waste management companies. It’s a very well-run event and keeps everyone involved until the afternoon, no matter how well you do.

Martin Emms

Norwich Operations Manager, Shred Station.

Well done, team!
