Your hazardous waste consignment note

A comprehensive consignment note must be completed to accompany hazardous waste when it is moved from one premises to another, in line with the UK Government’s hazardous waste regulations. We provide a consignment note with all hazardous waste collection services for your Duty of Care records, demonstrating your compliance. Our hazardous waste consignment notes include:

  • A description of the waste

  • The quantity and weight of any containers collected

  • The European Waste Catalogue (EWC) code of the waste collected

  • Hazard codes

  • The physical form of the waste

  • The chemical/biological components in the waste and their concentrations

  • The Recovery and Disposal (R&D) code

The completion of this note confirms that you have taken the appropriate actions in disposing of your hazardous materials compliantly, and it also confirms that we have received the waste and taken ownership of its disposal.

What is hazardous waste?

When most people hear the words “hazardous waste”, they imagine neon green cartoon-esque chemicals that corrode the skin, infected needles, poisons, and generally things that would cause immediate danger to health. While this is certainly true for some forms of hazardous waste, a lot of it is comprised of items you probably touch every day. Your smartphone, for instance, at the point of disposal, would be considered hazardous. So would your nail polish, computer mouse, and printer toner cartridges. Even the chair you’re sitting on right now could be classified as hazardous waste. Because hazardous waste is so complex and varied, your business must choose a reputable, knowledgeable supplier to dispose of it properly. With the right processes in place, some hazardous waste is even recyclable!

Hazardous waste is any type of waste that could pose potential threats to human health or the environment if it is incorrectly disposed of. For example, it could be toxic, corrosive, flammable, or could leave behind persistent pollutants that would be hard to remove from the environment. Hazardous waste requires specialist handling and disposal to prevent health and environmental risks.

If you’re unsure whether your waste is hazardous, feel free to get in touch. Our team of experienced hazardous waste specialists can help you to categorise your hazardous waste, as long as you have an itemised list of the waste you need disposed of. The UK government website also provides advice on classifying different types of waste if you’re feeling up to the challenge yourself!

For every hazardous waste collection, we will provide a hazardous waste consignment note.

It depends! Many types of hazardous waste are recyclable - particularly waste electrical items. If we are able to recycle your hazardous waste, we will.

If your hazardous waste isn’t recyclable, disposal methods could include chemical treatment or high-temperature incineration. None of your hazardous waste will go to landfill.
