Commercial dry mixed recycling made simple

Shred Station will handle your workplace recycling with minimal disruptions. We will operate largely in the background, keeping your recycling collections stress-free and free from interruptions.

Our dry mixed recycling services are fully compliant with all waste legislation and environmental standards, and we will provide all appropriate waste transfer documentation.  That means you can sit back, relax, and leave everything to us.

For regular customers, we can also provide recycling containers or wheelie bins as part of the service. We won’t upsell you a service you don’t need; we’ll help you to choose the right size bins and collection frequencies based on the volume of DMR you produce, making sure your service remains cost-effective.

How dry mixed recycling collections work

Our simple-to-use business recycling collections ensure the best possible outcome for your dry mixed recycling. Here’s how it works.

1/6

Preparation

Our DMR service requires minimal preparation. All we ask is that you please ensure all mixed recycling is clean, dry, and isn’t contaminated with non-recyclables, garden waste, general waste, or food waste. Once it’s clean and dry, it can go into your DMR bin.

2/6

Collection

We’ll collect your bins on our pre-agreed schedule, operating in the background to minimise disruption to your teams.

3/6

Transportation

Your materials will be transported to our UK-wide network of specialist material recovery facilities (MRFs) for separation and recycling.

4/6

Segregation and sorting

At the facility, your dry recycling will be separated into categories using a combination of manual sorting and mechanical sorting using complex machinery.

5/6

Processing

Once separated, your materials can be further processed into dedicated waste streams. For example, metals can be melted down for reuse, paper and card will be repulped, and plastics can be granulated and melted down into new plastic pellets.

6/6

Recycling

After processing, your materials will be manufactured into new products. This prolongs their use, saves resources, and ultimately helps your business to achieve its environmental goals.

What can go into your DMR bins?

The most commonly asked questions we receive in relation to our DMR services are about what materials can go into dry mixed recycling bins. You can place most of your typical business recyclables in your DMR bin, provided they are clean and dry.

✅ The following materials can be placed in your bin:

Paper

Card

Plastics

Metals

Non-confidential paper

Cardboard boxes

Drinks bottles

Drink and soup cans

Newspaper

Shipping sleeves

Clean plastic containers, tubs, pots, and trays

Clean or washed alluminium foil

Magazines

Cardboard packaging

Empty cleaning bottles

Empty aerosols

This list is not exhaustive, but it provides a few examples to get your teams started with effective recyclable waste segregation. Feel free to download and print our DMR bin posters to ensure waste is placed in the correct bins.

To avoid contamination and to ensure your business's recycling waste remains recyclable, we request that certain materials are not placed in your DMR bins.

❌ Materials we can’t accept in your commercial recycling bins:

For these items, we offer general waste, anaerobic digestion, and many other waste management services. Let us know if you need help with other waste streams - commercial recycling collections are just the tip of the iceberg!

Frequently asked questions

If your query hasn’t been answered on this page, please feel free to head over to our FAQs page for more information or get in touch with our team of experts.

At this time, we kindly request that glass be stored separately from your DMR due to the risk that broken glass can pose to recycling operatives. We can provide a dedicated glass bin and arrange glass collections separately.

There are many items that are unsuitable for recycling in DMR bins. Some of the most common examples include Tetra Paks, paper towels, and plastic or wax-lined coffee cups and containers. We can collect these items, but they must be kept separately. We also cannot recycle items that are unclean or contaminated by oil, for instance, used pizza boxes. If unsure, give our team a call. It’s much better to have a quick, 30-second conversation than to contaminate an entire truck full of recycling.

To ensure we can recycle your materials, it’s essential to clean and dry items before placing them into your DMR bin. Items don’t have to be spotlessly gleaming, but they do have to be clean enough to be reusable, without any remnants of food that could grow mouldy or cause harm to health.

You shouldn’t place electronics in your DMR bin because most electronics are considered hazardous waste. We can, however, provide a separate bin and collection schedule for any waste electronics you produce. See our WEEE recycling service page for more information.
