In 2017, SWRnewstar sought a confidential waste collection provider for their automotive industry customers across the UK. They require shredding services for sites in London, Edinburgh, Manchester, Newcastle, Leeds, and many more major cities across the nation.
Shred Station provides confidential waste collections for thousands of automotive customers each year, including everything from large chain garages, body shops, automotive stores and car dealerships, to independent mechanics and workshops. Due to our extensive experience in providing shredding services for the automotive industry, we were confident we could provide SWRnewstar and their clients with secure shredding services while causing minimal disruption to their customers.
The challenge
Regular shredding services for car dealerships across London, Edinburgh, Manchester, Newcastle, Leeds and beyond.
The automotive dealerships that require regular shredding collections are spread across the UK, with dozens of sites needing regular, on-site shredding services for confidential materials.
At Shred Station, we have a fleet of over 100 specialist shredding vehicles. Included in our fleet are many on-site shredding trucks that can destroy documents in front of our customers’ eyes. The size of our fleet and our regular routes in all major UK cities means we can easily fit these sites into our routes. At most sites, it is primarily confidential paper that needs to be destroyed. This means our shredding collections are all very straightforward.
The only minor challenge in servicing these sites regularly was carbon emissions. But following on from our Manchester depot opening in May 2019, we have been able to reduce our driver journey times and vehicle emissions. We can also provide more regular shredding services in Northern England and Scotland, particularly Manchester, Leeds, Newcastle, Glasgow and Edinburgh. We have also been CarbonNeutral® certified since 2019. This means our environmental impacts are minimal when servicing all sites, regardless of location.
Shred Station’s data destruction solution
Shredding is a vital element of the waste management service portfolio that SWRnewstar offers its customers, and our shredding services play a key part in its customers’ data security measures. The 151 automotive sites we service across London, Edinburgh, Manchester, Newcastle, Leeds, and the rest of the UK each have slightly different requirements for the destruction of their confidential materials, which include documents generated from the purchase, sale, service or repair of automotive vehicles.
Most sites we service are serviced every four to eight weeks. We also provide ad-hoc shredding services for larger one-off collections. The majority of these are on-site. This was important to SWRnewstar as it gives their customers the peace of mind of being able to visibly see their documents being shredded at their premises. We also provide the 151 locations with 540 confidential waste bins across their sites, mostly comprised of large sack cabinets. These confidential waste cabinets keep the automotive sites’ confidential information safe even before destruction.

Debra, our key contact at Shred Station, is superb and always willing to help – especially as we get various last-minute requests for urgent collections or changes to collections that are planned. Particularly, the on-site staff I’ve had to deal with in person for the service at Edinburgh Airport have been exemplary.
