As you can imagine, with lots of insurance comes lots of paperwork. The UK arm of QBE needed a way to securely destroy this paperwork with minimal interruption to their busy teams.
The challenge
We service QBE through a company called Prime Clean. Prime Clean specialises in commercial cleaning and waste management and has an excellent reputation in the commercial services industry. When Prime Clean were seeking an eco-friendly shredding service provider that could assist with QBE’s needs, we jumped at the chance.
From Prime Clean, we learned that one of QBE’s top priorities is providing excellent customer service. For many businesses, this is relatively easy. However, insurance can be a complicated subject. Delivering an expert and empathic service for a complex range of insurance types and needs requires dedication and focus from the company’s employees. QBE needed a supplier that could remove the responsibility of waste management from employees. By doing so, they can focus on what matters most to their business - insurance.
Our approach
As well as taking on the confidential waste management for QBE, we also facilitate the collection of their general waste, recycling and ad-hoc collections of hazardous waste through our trusted network of subcontractors. Everything that QBE needs to destroy, recycle or throw away, Shred Station takes care of it.
In terms of confidential waste, we service 10 sites across the UK for the company. Across these sites, we have installed 109 lockable confidential waste bins. These bins allow QBE employees to keep confidential materials safe even before destruction. We provide both paper shredding and media shredding to QBE, and nothing we shred for the company (or any customer) goes to landfill sites.
We also encourage QBE’s employees to use a Shred Everything process for unwanted paperwork. A Shred Everything process reduces the risk of employees making the wrong decision about whether a document contains confidential information. This saves time and helps to safeguard businesses from paper-related data breaches.
QBE decided to use our quick, cost-effective off-site shredding service to ensure minimal interruption. With this service, our operatives collect materials and take them away to be destroyed at one of our high-security shredding depots. All materials are destroyed per EN 15713 standards by BS7858 security-vetted personnel. We also monitor our discreetly branded off-site trucks with four-camera CCTV systems, GPS and telematics tracking.
The results
The result of our service provision is a happy customer! Cliff Burns, QBE’s Account Manager at Prime Clean, comments:
Whilst tendering for a confidential paper destruction service, along with the regular shredding accreditations, we were looking for a company that is making very high priorities on the current global greenhouse emissions and sustainability issues. Shred Station has shown this by being a carbon-neutral company, and along with their fantastic recycling results and great service, they are also helping QBE & Prime Clean achieve their own sustainability and carbon footprint goals.

Kristian Carter, Commercial Director at Shred Station, is also happy with how the relationship is going.
We have been managing QBE’s waste on Prime Clean’s behalf since 2021. Both Prime Clean and QBE have been ideal customers and are a delight to provide services for. Their requirements are consistently clear, and both companies run a tight ship. This makes scheduling their services very easy for our operations teams. Our national coverage and trusted network of subcontractors means we can respond to ad-hoc requirements quickly. For any waste we cannot handle ourselves, such as hazardous waste, there is always a solution available, and services can go off without a hitch.
