Recycling and the environment

Recycling 100% of our shredded paper, Shred Station ensures that the carbon footprint of our customers along with our own is kept in line with our Environmental Certification ISO 14001:2009. Shred Station operates a zero landfill policy, items such as shredded data tapes and clothing are directed to an Energy From Waste Plant, where material is incinerated under strict controls to produce electricity which is then diverted into the National Grid.

Our environmental responsibilities are also yours – are you sure you know what happens to your confidential material once it has been shredded? Unlike other companies we direct all of our shredded paper to processing mills within the United Kingdom. This significantly reduces the carbon used in the transportation of baled material and the recycling process.

Recycled paper produces 73% less air pollution than if raw material were used. According to industry experts, each tonne of recycled paper can save 17 trees, 380 gallons of oil, 7000 gallons of water, 4000 kilowatts of energy and 3 cubic yards of landfill space.

Our environmental policy is available on request.

Carbon offsetting

Each of our everyday actions consumes energy and produces carbon emissions. Carbon offsets can be used to compensate for the emissions produced by funding an equivalent carbon dioxide saving elsewhere.

Planting trees is a great way to offset your carbon footprint and become carbon neutral. Through photosynthesis trees absorb carbon dioxide to produce oxygen and wood. By planting a tree you are helping to offset carbon dioxide emissions.

On request Shred Station can provide a replanting tree service for every tonne of paper that we shred for you. Each replanted tree will help to offset the carbon that is used in the shredding process. Please give us a call to see how we can help you with carbon offsetting.
